Iraq The Winner Of AFC Cup 2007

The final of the AFC Cup was held at Jakarka, Indonesia which featured Iraq against Saudi Arab. Saudi Arab compared to Iraq was the favorite to win the title as they are well experienced side and have already taken part in the World Cup as well. Iraq though was not to be underestimated. I personally saw that Iraqi team’s plus point was their stamina. Wow man they ran like horses and could be seen all over the ground. The ball possession was also higher than that of Saudis. The first half saw no goals and in the second half Mohammed scored and broke the deadlock when he headed home the ball through a corner. The corner was well kicked and just went pass the leaping goalkeeper of Saudi and was lofted right above Mohammed’s head. This is probably the best goal of the tournament. This was the only goal of the final and Iraq became the champion. They deserved the cup and hats off to Iraq as they showed that they are really good in football. Probably one day Iraq will bring the world cup to Asia. The only thing I did not like about the mighty Saudi Arabians was that they showed some fraudulent acts in the previous matches like falling on the ground without any contact with the opposite players just to kill time and probably to have them showed red card. This is not the norms of football. Iraq played well and eventually lifted the title leaving Korea, Japan, Iran and the likes of big names in football of Asia.
