Snakes And Pipers Pipe

I have been hearing that snakes dance when the piper plays the tune. Is it true? There are films and stories regarding this but as far I have know according to what scientists say is that snakes do not have sense of hearing. When snakes are unable to hear a sound then how can they dance to the melody which comes from a piper’s pipe. Another interesting facto is that someone told me a real story. In a movie in a cinema hall one of the character played his pipe and there were snakes all around the walls of the theatre. Do I believe in this or the scientists?
