Records In 2007 World Cup Cricket

The 2007 Cricket World Cup in West Indies had a lot of new records. Previously the fastest half century in the world cup tournament went to Brian Lara of West Indies scoring 50 of just 23 balls. This record broke in this world cup when Mark Boucher the wicket keeper of South Africa scored 50 of just 21 balls. This is the first record created in the 2007 Cricket World Cup. The record of fastest half century is held by Sanath Jayasurya of Srilanka. The second world cup record is made by Mathew Hayden of Australia who scored the quickest century. It was against the South Africans when Mathew Hayden the opening batsman of Australia scored his 100 of just 85 balls. This is the world cup record of quickest century though the quickest century in a one day international is held by Saheed Afridi of Pakistan who scored the quickest century of just 27 balls. The third record made was not just a world cup record but a world record. Hershelle Gibbs of South Africa hit six sixes of consecutive six balls. He hit 36 runs in an over. This is the first time ever that any batsman hit 6 sixes in an over.
These records till date as on 26th March 2007 has an interesting factor which is, all these records involve of South Africa. There could be more records in the remaining days of the tournament as only the preliminary round has ended.
