Zidane’s head

It was in the 1998 world cup final when Zidane’s head brought French home the glory. The Brazilians as always the strongest contender to win the tournament faced the underdog of the FIFA ranking France. Two goals both of them headed by Zidane became the breakthrough until in the final minutes Petit scored one and assured the victory. Probably more than half the population on the earth had not thought of this kind of result. Brazil the name itself suggests who could be the winner until Zidane’s head. The reigning champions dream of becoming a winner again was totally shattered by Zidane’ s head.

Again in the 2006 world cup final it was France facing their neighbor Italy. France got an early lead before Italy’s defender Matarazzi equalized the game. Zidane had a huge responsibility on him as he was a captain and the one who brought home the glory in 1998. It was again Zidane’s head which bumped against Matarazzi’s chest intentionally and had himself sent off. This moment could be regarded as the turning point of the game. The ten men team though defended very well but eventually lost on the penalty shootout. The cup was then held by the Italians. Had not Zidane been sent off we could possibly had some other result as the French team had to stress more on defending than offending. As a playmaker Zidane was missed just because of the same head which made them a winner in 1998.
