I backed up South Africa in the final of the IRB Rugby World Cup 2007 held in France. The reigning champions did not seem to do well and per expectation in the final. South Africa however were the tournaments favorite and proved it as well. As far as I saw the matches from the knock out stages the final scoreline was not very big and the victory margin was very narrow on most of the occasions too. But in the final the margin of the final score line was a healthy one as compared to the other matches of the knock out stages. All in all the final was a good one and it is good to me because the team which I had backed came out on top and eventually lifted the cup as well. The Final Showdown Rugby World Cup Final 2007

On Sunday the former finalist England is taking on South Aftica on the final of the IRB Rugby World Cup 2007 being held in France. The home team could not make it to the final so the two visiting teams will be vying for the glory. Both the teams are good and the tournaments favorite. I back South Africa as they are a very well built team. South Africa should not concede any penalties to win this final because there is Wilkinson the perfect kicker in English side. I can make out that South Africa will score some tries where as in the previous matches the English side haven’t been able to score a try in the last couple of matches as per expectations. South Africa has a very fast sprinter whose name I don’t remember but in the warm up sessions he could be seen racing against a cheetah. The English defense should not be underestimated as well. They are walls and their tackling is good. All in all this is a perfect final with a well balanced team on either sides and the result can go anywhere. The IRB Rugby World Cup 2007 Cup could go to the Europe but I favor the cup going to Africa.

England played against the host France in the first semi-final. This match was a nail biting one. The French team was leading the score line till the 72^nd minute however the margin was too narrow. England the reigning champions played good rugby and overcame the French score. This was a turning point when Wilkinson kicked the ball to the goal line and scored a crucial point. Then the French were trailing when there was a very little time to beat the English. During the late 70’s French pushed them really hard to get a try but the English Defense was too tough. Every promising run made by the French were tackled by the English. The French needed a try to level the score so it was a nail biting one. The match was a good one but the bottom line is that someone has to lose and it was French this time. For me Wilkinson is the man of the match and half of the victory should be credited to him, the remaining half to other English players. All in all England now are the favorites to win the IRB Rugby World Cup 2007. The other finalist would be declared when Argentina and South Africa meet head to head in the second semifinal.

The reigning champion England played against Australia an all time favorite team in these kinds of tournaments. The game was a low scoring one in which England went through the quarter finals with the final score of 12 to 10. The match was an intense one as the game could have gone either ways. The English total all came out of penalties and Wilkinson was the one who scored all the twelve points through penalty. The match produced just one try and that came out of Australian team. The match was well balanced, had Mortlock converted the penalty in the 78^th minute, England would have a hard time overcoming the Australian score with so little time remaining. This penalty miss saw England breathing a sigh of relief and eventually the victory as well. The whole credit doesn’t simply go to Wilkinson who scored all the team’s total but the defense was too good for Australians. The tackle English players made with the forced turnovers were the key factors in England’s victory.
